Always On Duty BAWA's clinic near Ubud treats street dogs for skin and internal parasites, other diseases, wounds and starvation. There is always a qualified vet on duty. Dogs of Balinese owners who cannot afford to pay are treated without charge. It's also the base for the 24 hour Animal Ambulance. BAWA's animal ambulance provides professional emergency care to street dogs in Bali for the first time. It responds to many calls a day to animals in distress which are treated roadside and released or brought back to the clinic for treatment. The vets also assess whether the animals can be saved; if the injuries/illness is very serious, the dog is put humanely to sleep. This service is available to all Bali residents on a reasonable fee basis for emergencies such as poisoning, accidents, etc. The expenses of BAWA's Animal Ambulance are currently being met personally by Janice Girardi. Financial support is needed to pay fuel and maintenance costs plus staff, medicine and equipment. |
