Population Control

Please Spay and Neuter

The most urgent necessity is to continue to spay and neuter as many street dogs as possible to ensure that all of Bali's dogs can eventually be adequately fed and cared for. Sterilization programs have prevented the birth of thousands of unwanted puppies on Bali in the past decade. BAWA's population control program focuses on East Bali and other areas which alternative programs do not cover. Because this is one of Bali's poorest areas, the dogs here are often in poor condition. Unwanted dogs and puppies (especially females) are often dumped in this region.

BAWA supports a mobile clinic with vets that have been highly trained in modern sterilization techniques. It travels daily to East Bali's villages and conducts up to 40 free sterilizations a day. The mobile clinic stays in each village until 60% to 70% of the dogs have been sterilized. BAWA is fortunate to have the support of The Bali Street Dog Fund, Australia, to fund our desexing program.

The BAWA clinic outside Ubud also offers free spaying and neutering to Balinese who cannot afford to pay.
