Dear Friends and BAWA Supporters
2011 is upon us and all of us at Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) want to thank you for your kind support in 2010. It has been a difficult year for many worldwide so we are especially grateful for your donations.
Every rupiah, dollar and ounce of energy has helped us toward achieving important goals. Without any government support and only because of donations, this year we have:
• Sterilized almost 1700 animals
• Medically treated more than 2000 animals
• Adopted out more than 650 animals to loving homes
• Vaccinated more than 100,000 dogs for rabies
• Fed 45,000 dogs in our street feeding program
• Purchased lifesaving rabies medicine for many people (mostly children) who may have died a horrible rabies death without them. The medicine costs about $500 USD for a five-year-old child and much higher for adults, so therefore most Balinese could never afford the treatment
• Responded to more than 2200 emergency calls in our 24 hour ambulance
• Rescued all animals that came our way, for example 17 deer on the verge of starving to death, as well as bats, monkeys, birds and horses
• Educated more than 8000 children in responsible pet ownership and rabies awareness (7600 in public primary schools and 520 in international schools)
But the need is ongoing.
That is why we are asking you for help this holiday season...
We desperately need funds to improve our mobile emergency response service.
Our 24 hour ambulance is struggling to keep up - each month it does thousands of kilometers zig zagging across the island. It's tires are bald, and the rubber seals are so worn out that when it rains, water seeps into the van. BAWA's dedicated teams often need to push start it just to respond to calls.
We are grateful to all the caring people who call the BAWA hotline reporting animals in need. But it breaks our hearts that our ability to respond is limited.
BAWA aims not only to repair our current ambulance, but also to purchase a second vehicle, enabling our teams to reach more animals in need faster.
A great example of the difference that BAWA can make can be seen with Mia, our loving shop dog that we rescued from a flooded rat infested market one morning.
Mia was born blind but with a loving spirit and gentle soul that nurtures the new scared and sick puppies and teaches them not to be afraid.
Mia constantly reminds us that giving and loving is the only answer…
Your generosity now will help to provide more innocent animals like Mia with the basic care they so desperately need and deserve.
A little bit of money can go so far.
We have PayPal that works around the globe... so it is an easy process to send a donation. And you can also make a monthly pledge through our BAWA Subscription.
Please help us do more, rescue more, help more, teach more,
feed more and love more.
Every dollar truly helps the animals.
We wish you and your family the very best for a safe and happy holiday season.
With deepest appreciation,
Janice Girardi - BAWA Founder and Director,
