BAWA Barks!™
Woody
English
Tuesday night January 19th, Sue, a tourist staying in Sanur area, called BAWA and reported about the sight of a Macaque monkey being tied up at an empty field next to her hotel. the poor thing was tied to a pole on a very short leash. BAWA ambulance was dispatched to pick him up, but when we found out that he had an owner, we sent education team instead to find and talk with the owner.
This six month old buddy had been left and tied up at the fiels since August 2011, after the owner, who was about to hold a party at his place, felt the need to relocate Woody away from the house. After the perty, the owner didn't take him back into the house and left him where he was instead. The owner finally agreed to let BAWA take Woody to the clinic to give him proper treatment and list him for adoption.
We have so many cases like thism when people abandon their pets just because they don't feel like taking care of the animals anymore. What happened to Woody is a reminder for us that it takes a good amount of responsibility to keep a pet. We have to be willing to love and take good care of our pets, not only for a short period of time when we feel like having a pet to play with. So please find a good replacement or foster home for your pets if you think you are not able to take care of them anymore.
And now Woody, being playful and friendly despite his awful living condition before, is being taken care of (and spoiled!) by BAWA Clinic staff. We really need someone to adopt Woody as soon as possible and give him a loving permanent home. His only options at the moment are either to be adopted to a safe place or being put to sleep. Releasing him into the wild is not an option we would like to take. A macaque that belongs to no group like Woody would only be killed by other monkeys. If by miracle he could survive the killing by others, it might be hard for him to survive in the nature. He might wander outside the forest into surrounding residential areas, where he could get problems with the humans. We need you to help Woody, please email us through This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more information on adoptions.
Woody when we first found him. He was tied up on a short leash.
