BAWA Barks!™
Leo (Village to Village Adoption Program)
Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love. -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Leo was one of five siblings that were in our village-to-village program. This is a program where we ask the owners to keep the puppies until they are old enough to be adopted. In the mean time we are vaccinating and treating them and looking for new homes for these animals. We then sterilize the mother dogs and find loving homes for the puppies or kittens.
In Denpasar, Leo’s mother had been beaten up by her owner for being aggressive. A neighbour saw this happened and he decided to take care of the five puppies and informed BAWA about it. We vaccinated and gave them medications while they were fostered by the kind neighbour, waiting for adoptions. Mother dog was also sterilized, and thankfully, the beatings have stopped ever since.
One of the weakest of the siblings, Leo contracted an acute diarrhea, which was suspected as a case of Parvo. Leo was sent to isolation room at BAWA clinic for two weeks, and fortunately, test results came back as negative. It took lots of love and one week at the recovery room, and he was then all good and bouncy again. Leo is currently living with his new loving family in Klungkung. His other siblings have also been adopted into permanent loving homes.
A way to overcome space and fund limitations, village-to-village adoption program also ensures our animals live in caring homes before moving into permanent loving ones. The program relies on cooperation with people in the villages; exercise and building a habit of sheltering, helping, caring for, and of course, loving the animals.
Often the village foster families also have limited resources. Nevertheless, they are still willing to care for the animals and we hope they know how big their role is in helping these animals' lives. Please help us to help Bali animals by donating whatever you can: money, towels, food, medicine, or you can refer to our wishlist page . Each stray puppy and kitten costs around 50$ for vaccines, treatment, food and care until permanent homes are found. Your donations are greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you!
