BAWA Barks!™
The Bali Street Dog Fund
All of Bali Animal Welfare Association programs operate purly on donations from our supporters. Without them, it would be impossible for us to continue to do our work and to relieve the suffering of animals in Bali. We are very fortunate indeed to have the support of an amazing organization -Bali Street Dog Fund (Australia) and we want to acknowledge the very important role they play in supporting BAWA's work.
Everyone would agree that there are too many unwanted and unhealthy animals in Bali. For many reasons Balinese people tend to keep only male puppies and everyday many puppies and kittens are abandoned and discarded. The only answer to overpopulation is humane population control like BAWA's Spay/Neuter Program. For poor Balinese people, the cost of sterilization is prohibitive; therefore BAWA runs a free mobile spay/neuter program which travels from village to village.
This free-of-charge program would not be possible if not for our amazing Australian partner organization - Bali Street Dog Fund (BSDF).
Bali Street Dog Fund is based in Sydney, Australia. It was founded in 1999 by a group of wonderful people all of whom are hard working unpaid volunteers. BSDF have been providing full support in the form of 100% funding for our Population Control Program and our Spay/Neuter van. Thanks to BSDF, we were able to sterilize 3197 dogs in 2011.
Also in 2011, BSDF helped us to acquire our new ambulance, one of the two that we currently have, both of which are vital in our work. Our ambulances are used for 24 hour emergency calls and adoptions.
At BAWA we believe that education is the most vital component in addressing the myriad of animal welfare issues in Bali. Education not only shows us immediate improvement but also allows us to reach into the future – it gives us the opportunity to shape the values and belief systems of future generations by teaching the concepts of responsible pet ownership and animal welfare which is the only way to ensure a better future for both the animals and people of Bali. This is why we run daily education programs in schools and villages. This program is also supported by Bali Street Dog Fund and we acknowledge and appreciate their support.
Bali Street Dog Fund have an annual fundraising night 'Bali Nights' and all proceeds raised from this wonderful event goes directly to help Bali Dogs.
